Although therapy is becoming more and more common around the world, especially in the West, there are still many prejudices against therapy in society. Examples of some of these prejudices include thinking that only those with a certain psychological disorder receive therapy, or thinking that with therapy medication is always needed. Sometimes even people who have gone through very traumatic experiences can say, “I don’t need therapy, this experience did not cause me any psychological problems.” But in fact, therapy is beneficial for everyone, no matter how big or small a situation may have been.
Thanks to therapy, especially if we are working with a competent expert in the field, we have the opportunity to know ourselves much better, to discover hidden motives that control our lives, to reveal and analyze the memories we have forgotten and swept under the subconscious rug all in a reliable environment. Often the symptoms caused by what we discover are much easier to control or change. That is why therapy plays a very important role, allowing us to “take the wheel again” after discovering how our motives had brought us to an undesired place. Through therapy we become aware of things which we are perhaps had no idea were in our lives.
Therapy also helps increase our self-esteem and nurture our love for ourselves. We all need love and approval, and constantly looking for it outside is probably an indication that we’re not showing ourselves enough love, that there’s a lack on the inside, a blockage in the flow. Solving blockages with the help of an expert, untying entangled threads step by step and turning them into a neat lump can result in rebuilding our self-confidence and love.
There are many different therapy techniques, and the journey of discovering which of them is good for us, although sometimes tiring, can be a process that grows, develops, transforms. The important thing is to know that the answer to our questions may not just exists in one technique versus another and it may take time to discover which is best for us. We should not lose hope. Sometimes someone who has received years of therapy on the same subject will despair because they cannot get rid of their problem, but after trying another technique, they will recover.
Therapy not only helps us with our ailments and we can see healing; but we can also see how therapy helps us to get to know ourselves better, to better understand what we want, and to enjoy life more. Sometimes, even if people do not see a problem with themselves, they come to therapy at the request of those around them and realize that there are complicated points that they themselves were not aware of but these points were deeply affecting their relationships. In order to get any results from the therapy, the person must want to change themself or to receive healing.
Just as God willing helps us with all our troubles, God also takes care of exhaust our minds and souls. Although there seems to be nothing wrong with the surface, God sees what is happening in the deepest depths of our lives and wants us to experience the joy of life in all its fullness. Most importantly, God can listen to us forever in a way that no one else can, and He can understand what we think no one will understand, even if we can’t put it into words. In addition to seeking help from an expert, it is the most effective solution to offer our minds to God, to bring before Him everything that can cause us negative emotional states. After all, even the best doctor in the world is an agent of the LORD’s healing, healing always comes from the LORD.
